October is ADHD Awareness Month
This month, we salute our Riding for Focus partner schools nationwide that have programs supporting more than 20,000 students, across 77 schools, in 30 states. The program integrates cycling into the physical education curriculum as a means to help students achieve academic, health, and social success.

A Wheely Big Deal! Peter Sagan Outrides ADHD at the Tour de France
We appreciate the tremendous support for The Specialized Foundation Riding for Focus program during the 2018 Tour de France. The Specialized S-Works Shiv that Peter Sagan and his Bora-Hansgrohe teammates rode during Stage 20 of the Tour de France was indeed very special. The newly released Roval 321 rear disc wheel certainly turned heads as the fastest wheel/tire combo for the TT stage, but the bright blue Riding for Focus logo drove awareness for the Specialized Foundation.

Can You Dig It? Yes, You Can!
Spell relief from the heat this summer and give back to your local trails this riding season. Last summer break a group of Riding for Focus Chaboya Middle School students from San Jose's Evergreen School District braved the heat to help give the local trails at Henry Coe State Park some TLC. Riding their brand new custom Specialized Foundation bikes, the students got a chance to grind up the trail they were going to improve, work the trail lopping, brushing, and improving drainage before bombing back down. Park Rangers shared their trail tips and expertise.

Double Peak Riding to the Top of the Hill
Double Peak School, located in San Marcos, California is the first of its kind for the San Marcos Unified School District. Double Peak was one of the top twenty schools awarded a Riding for Focus grant last spring. The new campus for which planning began five years ago, was created to alleviate crowding at San Elijo Hill’s elementary and middle school and will eventually accommodate up to 1,200 students and currently enrolls over 900.

Rainbow Jersey Raising Mountain Spirits and Awareness at Sagan Fondo
Peter Sagan, Three Time World Road Racing Champion gave a major shout out to guests at the Sagan Fondo Gala Dinner the first weekend in May in Truckee, CA. Thanks to their tremendous generosity, they raised more than $97,000 for The Specialized Foundation, Adventure Risk Challenge and the King Ridge Foundation to help underprivileged children.

Pedal Powered Data—How We Measure Success!
This is a snapshot of the metrics we will collect with the Biometric Assessment Tool this spring expanding measurements to social success and health factors beyond the academic outcomes charted below. Over a 6 week observation period, 203 students at a first year Riding for Focus school rode for 6 week at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes in Target Heart Rate Zone.

Riding for Focus Water Bottle Design Challenge Winner
This past fall, we issued a challenge to all of our Riding for Focus schools to submit a design for Specialized custom water bottles with a promise of free bottles and bragging rights to the school to take first prize. Thanks to the creative and whimsical artwork submitted by the Waukesha STEM Academy students, they now have bottles on hand to celebrate!

Introducing VeloCity Cycling in Wisconsin—all things bikes (and beer)
VeloCity Cycling in Pewaukee, Wisconsin supports Waukesha STEM Academy-Saratoga, as the Specialized Foundation Riding for Focus middle school retail champion. The VeloCity Cycling staff built up the bikes for the program and provides ongoing maintenance. Store Manager Stephen Wagstaff said he's pleased that people understand that VeloCity is more than just selling bikes.
