Running for a Cause in Silicon Valley

Special Thanks to the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation for hosting the 2018 LAM Research Heart & Soles Run this past March in San Jose. The Specialized Foundation is honored to be one of the direct beneficiaries of the run which allows us to continue to grow and bring more Riding for Focus programs to the Silicon Valley area. This family-oriented fun walk/run is dedicated to helping our children engage in healthy exercise and to make better food choices on a daily basis. Over 2200 runners/walkers supported the event this year.,

Starting at the historic campus of Santa Clara University and Mission Santa Clara, the course featured a festive loop through Avaya Stadium, home to the San Jose Earthquakes and was followed by a Festival Expo where the Riding for Focus Team shared program information.

The Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation funded Chaboya Middle School in the San Jose last spring and the kids are thriving with their bikes and gear. Chaboya was also one of the seven schools recently selected on their merits of academic excellence to participate in new data collection protocol. Scosche Industries and North Pole Engineering (NPE) partnered with The Specialized Foundation to provide both hardware and software systems to safely gather biometric outputs from students participating in the Riding for Focus program. The goal is to use the data to validate the academic, health and social success outcomes of the students. Read more about this partnership.
