Riding for Focus

What is Riding for Focus? 

Outride’s Riding for Focus program is designed to integrate cycling into the school day. Developed as a result of our research findings, R4F is designed to help young riders build confidence and skills on the bike. Eligible schools may receive a grant to establish a program, which includes a fleet of bikes and curriculum.

Why Become a R4F School?  

Riding for Focus schools become a part of a community of 400+ sites in the US and Canada helping youth improve their well-being through cycling.

  • 100% of R4F teachers would recommend the program to other schools​.

  • 89% of R4F teachers report students being more attentive and focused after participating in R4F.

  • 83% of R4F teachers report improved student attendance and engagement in class.

  • Public middle schools and school districts serving students from low-income communities.

  • Eligible schools may receive an in-kind grant to establish a R4F program in their community which includes:

    • A fleet of bikes and helmets sized for students

    • An adaptable, evidence-based curriculum that can be integrated into PE or wellness classes

    • Teacher training and professional development

    • Program evaluation tools to measure impact

    • Ongoing technical assistance and community supports here

  • Please read our grant guidelines and FAQ to assess your readiness to implement R4F in your community.

    • Apply online by April 17th, 2026 - applications are reviewed on a rolling basis so we encourage you to apply well before the deadline.

    • Internal review and scoring.

    • Selected schools are invited to interview with Outride staff on a rolling basis.

    • Schools are notified of award decision on a rolling basis.

    • All schools will be notified by mid-May.
