๐ It's that time of year! Riding For Focus is here! ๐
Say hello to the new school year!
49 new Outride Riding For Focus (R4F) programs are starting up for the first time and getting #morekidsonbikes! R4F, our middle school-based cycling education program, provides our Champions with everything they need to get their students riding bikes - helmets, curriculum, teacher training, and a fleet of bikes.
Our Teacher Champions provide the rest - empowering their students to ride bikes safely, come away from the 12-lesson curriculum with the confidence to keep pedaling into adulthood, and a taste of the cognitive, physical, socio-emotional, and community-building benefits that bikes help create!
Since our early days, weโve brought Riding For Focus to over 225 middle schools around the country. Schools that receive our Riding For Focus grant serve historically marginalized, under-resourced communities, and schools can also purchase the program. The data weโve collected from our programs shows their worth. So far, some of our applied research findings include:
โจ Riding For Focus can transform students. Schools have seen positive effects ranging from increased student motivation to improved self-esteem and focus in their students
๐ It gets new kids riding! On average, 10-20% of students at a school donโt know how to ride a bike. By the end of the Riding For Focus program, students who didnโt know how to ride feel confident riding!
โค๏ธ Students LOVE the program. 87% of students report having fun in Riding for Focus, even those who typically donโt like school or PE.
๐ฒ It gets kids moving. Heart rate tracking indicates students can reach half of their daily activity levels in a 50โ60 minute Riding for Focus class.
๐ Weโre so proud of our Riding For Focus programs and our Teacher Champions, the heartbeat that keeps the programs going as they teach their students to ride, sharing the joy of bicycling and its benefits on our brain and well-being.
We canโt wait to share more smiles and stories from our youth and Champions from the Riding for Focus community as the school year gets started.
