The Iowa City Bike Library is a 7,000 sq. ft. community bike shop in Eastern Iowa. We empower people—especially youth—through the lens of the bicycle. We believe every community should have access to a bike shop that fosters mobility, skill-building, and independence. Our three youth programs—Bike Club, Bike Safety Camp, and OutSpoken Teens—are built around the unique needs of the communities they serve. We aim to strengthen the fundamentals of youth bike programming; and, in partnership with the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center, share adaptable resources with others to accelerate program development nationwide.
Director Audrey and Bike Library board member Tony Branch have championed girls and underrepresented youth in cycling for over 15 years. From junior race teams and bike buses to teen earn-a-bike and early childhood bike safety programs, they are committed to creating age-appropriate, empowering cycling experiences for every stage of a child’s life.
